There are three ways to print the sides of a canvas, each offering a distinct look that enhances your artwork’s presentation.
-
Mirrored sides reflect the outer edges of the main image, extending them smoothly around the canvas. It creates a balanced, continuous look that preserves the original colors and patterns, giving the canvas a neat, unified appearance without cutting off any part of the front artwork.
-
Continuous sides make the image on the front naturally wrap around the sides of the canvas. For standard prints, the wrap is about 2 centimeters, while gallery canvases have a deeper wrap of around 4 centimeters. This method allows the artwork to flow over the edges, adding depth by including parts of the image on the sides of the canvas.
- Colored sides are printed with a solid color that complements the main artwork. This is a great choice if you prefer a simple, clean look where the sides subtly enhance the overall design without drawing attention away from the front.
Please note that if you choose continuous sides for your canvas, make sure your design extends enough artwork into the wrap area. This helps cover the sides fully and keeps the look consistent with the front. Also, try to keep key details and focal points away from the edges so they don’t get wrapped around and partially hidden in the final print.
